Two Step

BPM: comfortable at 85-90, range 70-120

Two Step is the most popular of all country dances, and is usually the first one you will learn. It is a progressive dance that moves counter-clockwise around the outside of the dance floor.  The basic pattern consists of 4 steps (2 quick and 2 slow) counted on beats 1, 2, 3 & 5. Often called “Downbeat Two Step”, it accents the 1st and 3rd beats of a song that are also punctuated by the bass guitar and bass drum. Done properly, this dance is fast and smooth, looking as if a couple is skating on ice.
